Metal weight

Square tube 100×100×5 mm weight

Steel Square tube 100×100×5, cold-formed (EN 10219), weighs 14.41 kg/m. A 6 m bar weighs 86.5 kg and a 12 m bar 172.9 kg. The hot-finished version (EN 10210) has tighter corners and weighs 14.70 kg/m. Values are theoretical, for a density of 7.85 g/cm³.

How it was calculated

The weight is the section area multiplied by the material density:

kg/m = section area (mm²) × 0.00785. The area comes from side and thickness, minus the rounded corners: for cold-formed tube (EN 10219) the outer radius is 2t up to 6 mm wall, 2.5t up to 10 mm and 3t above; for hot-finished tube (EN 10210) the outer radius is 1.5t.

For Square tube 100×100×5, the section area is 18.36 cm², so 1 metre = 18.36 × 0.785 = 14.410 kg.

The real weight can differ by a few percent because of rolling tolerances. For other materials or lengths use the calculator.
